Judge David Krebs

Biography

David R. Krebs was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, grew up in the Gregory-Portland area, graduated from Gregory-Portland High School and attended Texas A&I University majoring in Business. In 1973 he returned to the area and entered into the family farming operation from which he retired in 2006.

Judge Krebs was elected to the San Patricio County Farm Bureau Board of Directors in 1981, where he served in all officer positions including 4 years as President.

In January 1991, Judge Krebs was elected to the Texas Farm Bureau State Board of Directors serving for 7 years. He served as Board Secretary-Treasurer for two years while also serving on the Southern Farm Bureau Board of Directors in Jackson, Mississippi for two years. Judge Krebs retired from the State Farm Bureau Board in 1997.

Judge Krebs ran and won his election to the Portland City Council in 1998, serving 6 years as Council Member before being elected as Mayor in 2004. Judge Krebs served 14 years as Mayor of the City of Portland, prior to being elected to San Patricio County Judge in 2018.

Judge Krebs is committed to public service as is evidenced by his service of 20 years in the Portland Volunteer Fire Department and recipient of the “Citizen of the Year” award from the Portland Chamber of Commerce twice, in 2006 and 2012. Judge Krebs is most proud, as Mayor of Portland, of his hand in bringing a new aquatic center and new baseball/softball complexes to the City of Portland.

Anyone that knows Judge Krebs knows his love of baseball and community service. He umpired for Little League from 1997 to 2018 and officiated two Little League World Series games – one in 2013 and one in 2015. He also umpired for High School for two years. During this same time frame, he was the Official Score Keeper for 10 years for the Corpus Christi Hooks baseball team from 2007 to 2017.

Judge Krebs continues to serve on the Corpus Christi Metropolitan Planning Organization Board, currently serving as Chairman, Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development Commission Board 2004 – present, New Harbor Bridge Project Committee Member since its inception, first as Mayor of the City of Portland and currently as San Patricio County Judge.

Judge Krebs is a member of Lions Clubs International and served as District Governor 2015-2016. He received the Ray Houston Humanitarian award in 2020; and received the Texas Lions Foundation Fellow Award in 2021.

Judge Krebs and his family are members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Portland, Texas. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6413 and a 4th Degree member of Assembly 2781.

Judge Krebs has been married to his wife, Vicki, for 43 years and has two sons, Matt and Jeff (daughter in-law Kayla), and five Grandchildren.
